A sexy masked stalker, but make it sweet and cozy?
I love how A. Knightley can take darker topics (like I am still legitimately spooked by the idea of being a fire watch tower), tell an incredible story, and still make me feel as though I am wrapped in a fuzzy blanket the whole time. It’s the perfect combination of scary, sexy, and safe.
Atlas (aka the Masked Man) is my favorite type of morally grey, dark romance hero. He does bad things, but will do anything to avoid inconveniencing his love interest, Max. Sometimes I wanted to poke him just a little and be like, dude, it’s okay that you like him! But his hesitation and concerns about bringing Max into his world are understandable.
The chemistry between Max and Atlas is off the charts from their first (almost) encounter. The minute their Alpha and Omega pheromones connect, their bodies know they are absolutely compatible. While a rather dark incident keeps them apart, when they do reconnect, the struggle to build trust and ultimately decide what they each want (A/O instincts be damned!) is really well written. While there is some misinterpretation on Max’s part, it is incredibly understandable why he reads the situation this way and also why he doesn’t fully trust a masked man who keeps breaking into his space.
As I mentioned, the book also keeps a nice, cozy vibe. Moments of humor help keep the mood light, and while Atlas’s world is dark, it is clear he will do anything to keep Max safe, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness.
Heat Lightning was absolutely amazing, and you need to read it now!
