Growing up in the Bay Area and being near to where the setting of this novel takes place made it very easy for me to picture and imagine the setting and I think it’s absolutely perfect for it. The idea of a gargoyle and a museum in that area makes quite a bit of sense and is fitting. The incorporation of various myths and history really helped to shape and add to the environment of the story. On the other hand, the plot and pacing felt very slow and it made it difficult to focus and engage. The characters are both understandably stubborn and set in their ways despite what has been thrown at them.
Unfortunately, this was not for me even though I so desperately wanted to love and enjoy this but I struggled a lot. The premise is delightful with a blend of medieval meets modern; magic; fated mates; and slowburn. If you enjoy those elements in your story, you may wish to give this a try.
