Another beautifully written Riley Paige romance. Kai and Wren have my entire heart with their second-chance love story.
Wren is the most relatable eldest daughter of a single mother ever. She is running herself ragged, stepping up to act as a second parent to her four younger siblings while also going to school full-time and working as an equipment assistant for the men's hockey team—which thrusts her back into the orbit of her ex, who is also her best friend's older brother. Any one of those things would be enough for a single person to handle, yet Wren takes on all of it without complaint. I've never read a character more deserving of having someone take care of her, and it broke my heart to watch her drowning under the weight of everything she carried.
As the hockey team captain, Kai is used to taking the lead and keeping everything around him under control. That extends into his personal life, where everything is orderly and organized. The only thing at risk of shattering that control is his feelings for Wren, the girl he let slip through his fingers three years ago. Kai is my ideal man—calm in a crisis, compelled to help those around him, and determined to never lose Wren again. While it is never explicitly stated that he has obsessive-compulsive disorder, like recognizes like, and this diagnosed OCD girl saw a WHOLE LOT of like.
Kai is the only person who asks Wren what she needs, and honestly, it had me tearing up multiple times while reading. I love that he never tries to take control of her life, instead providing the support she desperately craves and allowing her to decide what that support looks like. They are tender, have the sweetest inside jokes, and create plenty of steamy chemistry. They complement each other beautifully—the wild and the restrained—and I 100% see them making it to forever together.
Riley Paige never misses, and Lose You Twice is no exception. Now I'll be (not-so) patiently waiting until January, when scene-stealer Weston gets his chance at finding love.
