Going into this book, I was convinced it wasn’t going to be for me.
There was a particular relationship dynamic that made me hesitate before picking it up and I fully expected it to cross a line I wouldn’t be able to get past.
Instead? I absolutely devoured this book.
Hawke ended up being one of those stories that challenged my comfort zone as a reader and made me question some of the fictional moral lines I thought I had. Somehow, despite all my initial doubts, I became completely invested in these characters and their journey.
What really made this book work for me was the emotional connection. As twisted as parts of the story were I found myself genuinely caring about the characters and understanding their choices even when I didn’t necessarily agree with them.
And honestly, that’s what made this book so memorable. And years later I still think about it.
The story, the characters, the emotions… it all stuck with me long after I finished the final page.
Now, this definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. The themes are dark, the relationship dynamics may make some readers uncomfortable, and it’s a book that pushes boundaries. But if you’re someone who enjoys romance that challenges traditional expectations and isn’t afraid to venture into morally complicated territory, this might be worth checking out.

Overall: I expected to dislike this book. Instead, it completely won me over. Twisted, emotional, uncomfortable at times, and impossible for me to forget.
