If the words “Can I keep you?” still punch you directly in the heart, then listen up. I'm not talking cartoon Casper. I'm talking Casper Casper! Yeah, the one who made an entire generation immediately question whether having a ghostly BFF-turned-boyfriend might actually be the dream.
Now take that nostalgia, add a dash of Charmed, make it one witch instead of three sisters, give her a frog familiar, and you have Haunt Me, Maybe. And I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.
Aren is a witch on the run from a witch hunter (You suck, Gideon!) who ends up in the cozy little town of Amber Grove with her frog familiar Fenn. She rents an attic room only to discover it already has an occupant- a grumpy, bossy, and totally hot ghost who happens to hate witches. Good thing Aren isn't easily discouraged. Bit by bit, she starts winning over Mr. Grumpypants, and that slow burn was SO worth it. Because Sexy Casper eventually makes it very clear that he's not just going to be her formerly-grumpy-now-friendly ghost. Oh no, my friends. Apparently our ghost has some serious “Who's your daddy?” energy hiding underneath all that brooding. 😂🔥 Let's just say when Aren decides he's the one getting her V-card... I was HERE for it. And I loved that we actually had to earn that moment! This isn't an insta-lust, jump-straight-into-bed romance. Aren has to slowly break through his walls first, which made their relationship that much sweeter when things finally heated up.
The magic, small-town atmosphere, frog familiar, romance, humor, and Halloween charm all came together perfectly. This was exactly the kind of book I needed to put me into that cozy fall/Halloween mood. This was my first book from E.M. Rinaldi, but it definitely won't be my last. In fact, I already added all her books to my TBR, Preorder the ebook of Haunt me, Maybe (Yes, I read the ARC, AND pre-ordered. My PSA as a Book Lover and Reviewer- when you connect with an author that you enjoy reading- SUPPORT THEM!!) and now I'm hoping for a physical copy because this one earned a permanent spot on my bookshelf!
Haunt Me, Maybe releases October 1st!! Pre-order your copy now!
