Hashtag Holidate follows worldly influencer Adrian and small-town shop owner/videographer Maddox as they overcome their differences and fall in love, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Christmas in the picturesque town of Legacy.
Early on, one of the main character jokes that he doesn’t expect a Hallmark holiday romance, but that’s exactly what this book delivers.
Adrian and Maddox come from completely opposite worlds and have lived very different lives. Adrian is a city guy who grew up with wealthy but emotionally distant parents, so he’s spent years traveling the world to escape them and forge his own path. Maddox, on the other hand, is trying to balance running his family’s hardware store, caring for his younger sister, and doing videography on the side (a job he truly enjoys) all while quietly grieving both his parents and a failed past relationship.
Their paths cross by chance when the person set to film Adrian’s next big social media campaign bails, and Maddox is the only one available to help.
There’s instant chemistry between them, but both guys have baggage that makes them hesitant to start something new.
The small-town vibe, with all its charm and meddling locals, is the perfect setting for their relationship to blossom.
This is a cute, low-angst romance. Both main characters have to work through their issues before they can really open up, and it’s genuinely heartwarming to see their journey.
The meddling town people are both charming and entertaining, making the whole story a really enjoyable read.
The book seems to be set in an extended shared universe. Since this is my first book by this author, maybe I missed a few details, but nothing that made the plot hard to follow.
If you’re in the mood for something fluffy and sweet, this is a great pick, I totally recommend it.
