RIP, LOL is an emotional coming-of-age novella that explores the complicated ins and outs of grief. Willow is trying to build her future while carrying the devastating loss of her older brother, but grief continues to affect her family, relationships, dreams, and decisions.
I appreciated that this story did not present healing as a simple or predictable process. It showed the guilt, anger, fear, confusion, and overwhelming sadness that can exist together after losing someone. It also explored how members of the same family can experience and express their grief very differently.
I immersive read this using the ebook and audiobook, and Khaya Fraites’ narration made Willow’s emotions feel incredibly personal and authentic. Her performance captured Willow’s vulnerability and inner turmoil beautifully.
This was a moving and honest read for anyone who appreciates character-driven stories about grief, family, identity, and learning how to keep moving forward.
