I really enjoyed Mallory's story and she is a compelling character; I'm not normally an amnesia fan but I liked the twist that it was magic based and that there are several characters across the book who know Mallory from before she wakes up in the rift. I'm intrigued for when the pieces start falling into place once she breaks the spell as there is definitely more to it than meets the eye and I cannot wait for the reveal of what the numbers mean!
I am a big quest fan and really enjoyed that subplot as well as the found family Mallory became part of. I loved Mayer's trademark humour throughout; from Lucky's wardrobe to Sorrow's pettiness there were plenty of cute moments to break up the tension. It's slow burn on the romance side and I'm a little uncertain on Veyyr's role; I was sold on him as the MMC until Zane entered the picture and caught my attention. I'm invested in that relationship already! There was some really early surprises too which I didn't see coming this early on and the cliffhanger has definitely set up a whole new dynamic for book two!
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
