Reed Bishop left years ago to study to be a doctor. Now, he's back to pre-Civil War North Carolina and ready to help those who live near, although he's still haunted by the duel he fought the night before he left. Carina Zimmer has spent the years since her brother died in that duel trying to keep her family home. How will she react when the doctor she's summoned turns out to be the man who killed her brother? I enjoyed this story. The love story is a slow burn (which is a favorite of mine). The story held my interest throughout, though the ending felt a little rushed for my taste. A few plot points required some suspension of disbelief, but I still enjoyed the heart of the story and the characters’ journey.
