Sutton is the most down-bad, yearning man to ever exist. This “Pretty Boy” was gone for Kelsey from the second they met—and not even being ghosted could stop him from dreaming about a future with his “Shadow.” He is thoughtful in a way that hurts. The kind of man who notices everything, shows up anyway, and—yes—makes her pie. That’s the kind of man you marry. I’m OBSESSED with him, and I genuinely don’t know how Kelsey held out for two years.
Kelsey is the black cat heroine I would absolutely befriend. She makes frustrating choices (girl, ask a question before you spiral), but her growth feels real and earned. By the end, you can see how much she’s matured—and I’m always here for that kind of character development.
Together, they’re electric. Every interaction is packed with banter, tension, and chemistry—and the spice is spicing. Also… ice cream? Unexpected. Memorable. Slightly unhinged (in the best way). But what really sells them is how deeply they see each other. He looks past her walls and admires the strength underneath, and she refuses to treat him like a solution to her problems, the way others in his life do. They don’t fix each other—they fit.
This is the first book in the Sterling Springs series, with cameos from the On the Slope series (highly recommend starting there). I’m already eyeing Sutton's brothers and planning my next obsession.
