received this book as an ARC for free in return for my honest review. I was not paid, these are my own thoughts & opinions.
Godbound follows Raylane, a queen-to-be, as her world slowly begins to unravel. In this world, every female has white hair; this is a sign of their purity. When someone loses their purity, a red streak appears in their hair marking them as 'crimson tethered'. They say it's a curse, from the Goddess Calista. These women that are cursed are thought of as less than. But the men have no such worry.
Masha does a fantastic job at setting up the world. She explains the lore very well without dragging it out. She sets up the characters in a way that makes you feel like you have known them forever. You begin the story with Raylane in love & about to be married; she's established a name for herself, she's truly in love and it feels like you've always known this would be the outcome.
There was a moment in the very beginning, where I thought that maybe things weren't as they seemed. I swore, she was going to fall for the King's broody brother. But this world is also very strict on rules where men and women are concerned.
I LOVED the way that Masha explains Raylane's Godbeast's powers. It is so unique in the way it works. There's also dragons, and trials, and the way it all just fits together is perfect. I cannot wait for the next book.
