Book: Nutcracker: A Briarwood Sanitorium Novella by Sybil Knight

I'm skipping the romance review because there is none. This book is a medical thriller. There is smut and a whole list of trigger warnings, but there is no romance. The book is not as spicy as I expected. However, a few scenes have graphic descriptions.
The story is quite short, less than 200 pages or so. It’s fast-paced enough that I didn’t get bored and written in a way that even I was wondering if the guy was going insane or not. There are a lot of medical terms that had my French brain dive into Wikipedia and a dictionary.
After reading it, I think the main idea I got from that story is: fuck around and find out. Both characters did.
Am I sorry for them? No. Both are equally bad: treating human rights and laws as mere suggestions.
I was, however, expecting more dark humour. Maybe I’m too used to the author’s style, but I found it quite tame in that sense? Sarcastic and cynical? Yes. But not the usual dark humour that had me cackling like her other novels.
I still devoured the book in two hours, grinning at the ending in sadistic satisfaction.
If you like it unhinged, dark, and taboo, and stories that make you think about your own morals? This one is for you.
