Shadowmire by Reaghan Quinn - Narrated by Dani Soleil, Ash Beverly, Noah Trent, Payton Briggs Anderson, and Luke James
In this Romantasy we find Celeste at the Whittaker School of Magick. But, what she needs isn't teaching to learn how to use her powers, she needs to learn how to constrain hers, how to funnel them....she'd like to bury them if she could. Hide behind them. Hide them. What she is....what she's capable of...it won't stay hidden.
I loved the cast for this audiobook! The variety of voices made it easy to identify dialogue between the characters. It's not like a GraphicAudio - no sound effects, simple the book read. 😍
I will say that at one point, the dynamicism of the audio got a teensy bit on my nerves. During times when a character would 'murmur' something, the narrator would, indeed, murmur. This meant that the volume was different between the two characters speaking. It would cause me to raise the volume, but then the other character seemed to be shouting. But, that's my one and only complaint of the audiobook, and it's probably just a me thing. 🤣
I really enjoyed Celeste as a character. She had a real struggle with her powers and it felt like she wasn't told so much about herself growing up and this was such a....flinging of her into school to figure everything out on her own. She had to use so much restraint and smarts to make her way through.
I loved the crew from school. I'm a big fan of found family and I really enjoyed the others that we meet. And Noa and Gavrail?! Swoon.
At times I was definitely feeling Fourth Wing vibes, but with elemental magic instead of dragons. But, this definitely stands on its own. Just, the spiciness and strength of the relationships plus some of the academic setting brought me to that conclusion. This is quite spicy! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This is the first book in The Starweaver series! I can't imagine what's going to happen next, but I'll be waiting for it!
