I never did get my head around Quinn's dragon manifestation magic but I have been so invested in the journey Quinn and her guys have been on. It's definitely different to anythign I have read in a while. I liked the humour, the found family and Quinn has been a great FMC. Her resilience has really shone through and she has come so far from the girl we met in book one.
Cayden has been my favourite character from the start and his arc had me engaged the whole way through. He has overcome so much trauma and I loved seeing how open he became with Quinn and the others towards the end. Ezra also really stood out in this one and his reason for not tethering Quinn felt so earnest. There was a real split in the group with XanRa on one side and Cayden/Rowan on the other but after three books they finally mature as a group and get over past grudges.
I didn't find the Project Harmony subplot as engaging as the plots from earlier books but I did like the actual quest around Scotland; I'm Scottish and loved the whole hairy coo chapter! There was just one subplot too many for me though and the ending felt a little abrupt after a four book build up which left me hoping for a bonus epilogue; it didn't quite wrap up everything with a bow however it looks like there will be more exploration of the world in Everly's spin off.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
