Her name is Cerise(which means a deep red color), and she's a witch who lives in a cottage in the woods of the fae realm. Her Gran warns her about Wolven Mages and how they are evil conjurers who bind their souls to wolves. Gran has her take a tonic to suppress her magic, because it's too much for Cerise to handle she says. But why does her Gran think it's too much for her and why does she try to instill such fear of Wolven Mages in Cerise?

His name is Alaric and he is a Wolven Mage. He and his second, Reid, are in the elven lands looking for a Rogue, a mage who is in dissonance with his wolven half, who they hope to get back to the wolven realm, Kenibore, and keep them from Rupturing and dying. When they are searching for him, they encounter a couple elves and a witch. A battle ensues and the witch dies, elves run away and Alaric and Reid quickly head back to the portal.

As they are heading back, they come upon a cottage. It happens to be Cerise and Gran's cottage, Cerise is not there at the time because she had been to the nearby village and got lost on the way home. She walks into the cottage and sees them crouching over the dead body of Gran. Accusations and denials abound.

Needless to say, they take her back through the portal to Kenibore to find the truth. They get there, the king is dead, he did technically have an heir but he was lost in the elven lands over twenty years ago, so there is no heir and they search the family tree. Things happen and their lives are turned upside down.

“Because I know your world has been shaken. And you’re questioning what you thought you knew. But what I know is that you are a beautiful soul who has strived to do good in your life. And just because she was important to you and you loved her doesn’t make you the same as her.” -Alaric to Cerise

Love blooms between them, secrets are revealed, and plots years in the making are exposed.
It is such a good story, I enjoyed it immensely. This story did give me "Little Red Riding Hood" vibes from the very first chapter. That's not a bad thing though. It's a story of a girl coming into her own. She may be twenty-four, but she's living with her grandmother in the woods. She has red hair, a red cloak she wears when going out...yeah, red riding hood.
