The first book of The Blood Moon duology, Fate and Fury is a Slavic inspired romantasy that follows the story of Katerina and Niko. Magic, evil, fallen angels, demons, realms, trials, romance, angst, betrayal - this book has it all.

Katerina is a Dimi, a powerful magic wielder who commands the four elements to protect their village. Niko is her Shadow, who transforms into a black dog who guards between humanity and evil. They are blood bonded to each other, to be companions and strengthen each other in the fight against The Darkness. Their bond however goes beyond this, it is pure devotion and love. However it is prophecised if a Dimi and Shadow fall in love The Darkness will be set free to terrorise their realm. The deny their feelings until Niko is pledged to marry another, and soon they cannot deny it any longer. Is their love responsible for the chaos that emerges as portals to the Underworld open and demons battle each other for power?

The story immediately starts with action and the world building occurs as the story progresses. I love this style of writing, as I feel a connection to the characters right away. I enjoyed the unique bond between Katerina and Niko, who discover new depths to their powers as the story develops.

The history, and the magic and demonic elements were so engaging and there are twists along the way that kept me guessing. Some of these completely blindsided me and were utterly devastating. The story is emotional and impactful, I was hooked the whole time and did not want it to end. It does not end with this book however, so I'm desperate to know what happens next and will be devouring book two as soon as it's available! This was also my first time reading Emily's work and I'll definitely be reading her other works too.
I received an advance review copy from the author however I am leaving this review voluntarily.
