Fast paced second installment

Book: We Borrow The Light by G. Bailey

I have been eagerly waiting for this after the cliffhanger in book one but this unfortunately fell a little flat for me. I loved the idea that Juniper had her memories back and was looking forward to that being explored and using it to her advantage but the plot moved so quickly that it felt underutilised. The pacing was really fast too and it felt like that every time there was an issue, it seemed to be resolved by the next couple of chapters so the stakes never really felt very high.

I did like the small changes that were made to try and keep Juniper stuck in the illusion like escalating her relationship with Lock but swapping Rue out for Parker felt a bit odd. I liked Parker and he was a breath of fresh air amongst all the MMCs but he was off page so much that I forgot about him towards the end. I also liked the headmaster who is in the running for favourite character. There was a lot of exposition towards the end too; I am intrigued by the curses though and what purpose they ultimately serve which I hope gets explored in book three.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read.
