I picked up Fairydale as part of our book club theme, but it was also one of those overdue ARCs that had been sitting in my pile accumulating dust. 🫠
For the first 50% of this book, I genuinely felt like I was being gaslighted by one person after another. I spent so much time confused and questioning what was actually happening that I couldn’t help but wonder how Darcy was still functioning. 😂 The atmosphere and mystery kept me going, though, because I needed to understand what the hell was happening.
The second half started to make more sense, and a lot of the pieces finally began falling into place. But at the same time, it felt like the book transformed into a completely different story. I actually told one of my book besties that towards the end, it felt like I had read three different stories in one book .
Despite all the confusion and the tonal shifts, I still really enjoyed the experience overall. It was strange, atmospheric, and definitely memorable, even if I occasionally felt like I needed a map to figure out where the story was taking me.
Also, a PSA: there is a tail involved. 🫣 If that’s not your thing, you may want to check the content warnings before diving in.
Overall, a chaotic but entertaining read that somehow managed to keep me invested until the end.
