Wes Hayes... let me just tell you, this grumpy man may have officially become my favorite Hayes brother. Sorry, Landon, but Wes and Harper's story has claimed the top spot in the Fated series for me!
Wes is broody, stubborn as hell, rough around the edges, and armed with the driest sense of humor. He had me cackling one minute and completely melting the next. But the real question is... was he getting under Harper's skin, or was she getting under his? Because the tension between these two was absolutely unmatched.
My heart absolutely broke for Harper. Life has dealt her one cruel hand after another and watching her fight to survive while desperately trying to protect herself was heartbreaking. Despite everything she'd endured, her sass, strength, and resilience made her impossible not to love. Watching her slowly lower her walls, learn to trust, and rediscover her worth was both emotional and incredibly rewarding.
Can we also talk about Harper calling Wes "Demon"? Because I absolutely LIVED for it. Every single time she said it, I couldn't help but smile. It perfectly captured their relationship: equal parts aggravation, affection, and undeniable chemistry.
What I loved most, though, was watching Wes change. Beneath all that grumpiness was a man capable of so much love and care. The little things he did for Harper, the way he slowly let her into his heart, and the way they helped each other heal was beautiful to witness. His character arc was easily one of my favorites in the entire series.
And J. Laine... girl, you put readers through the emotional wringer. The angst, grief, love, mystery, and hope were woven together so perfectly. Those letters absolutely destroyed me. Just when I thought I'd recovered emotionally, you found another way to make me cry.
One of my favorite things about this series is that, despite the amount of trauma these characters endure, there is always so much love, healing, and found family. Watching Harper and Wes help each other find their true selves while building something neither thought they deserved was incredibly moving.
This entire series has me in an absolute chokehold, and with every book I fall harder for these characters. Fated continues to deliver everything I love: angst, banter, darkness, healing, romance, mystery, and characters who stay with you long after the final page.
Wes and Harper completely stole my heart, and I honestly cannot recommend this book enough. If you're considering picking it up, don't hesitate. It's one you won't want to miss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
