Spellcast is an emotional and fiery romantasy featuring dragon shifters, witches, hidden magic, and a heroine who has spent ten years desperately waiting for someone to see her.
Arden has been cursed to remain invisible in her village. She can see and hear her family and friends, but she cannot speak to them, touch them, or let them know that she is still there. The loneliness behind Arden’s curse immediately pulled me into her story.
Everything changes when her village is destroyed and a pride of dragons appears. Unlike the surrounding humans, the dragons can see through her curse. Arden is taken to the Crags by their mysterious alpha, Tage, where she finds herself trapped in a dangerous world of magic, secrets, and impending war.
I enjoyed Arden’s journey from someone who had been forced into powerlessness to a heroine beginning to recognize the strength and magic hidden inside her. The captor-captive tension, dragon-shifter mythology, touch-her-and-die energy, and romance made this a compelling addition to the A Fire in the Sky world.
A strong four-star read for fans of spicy romantasy, possessive dragons, witches, hidden powers, and heroines who refuse to remain invisible.
