As if I didn't already love Naima Simone, Ember would have turned me in to a fan automatically.
This is a truly brilliant twist on the story of Cinderella.
Ember Cross is the only biological daughter of the head of the House of Cross fashion house and mafia family.
When her mother died and her father remarried, she inherited a SERIOUSLY evil stepmother, Michelle, and two wicked stepBROTHERS, Asad and Kareem, and believe me when I tell you Drizella and Anastasia could only WISH to have been this cool.
Asad Prince is one of the hottest, sexiest, and most devious MCs. As one of Embers stepbrothers and heirs to the House of Cross he is a bad boy through and through. He is quick to pull a gun, hungry for torture, and always thinking five steps ahead. He is also sexy as hell.
Ember? She's phenomenal all on her own. Brilliant, a talented chemist, the ability to plot and plan just as deviously as Asad. But because she was born a girl, she's hidden.
And so, we're set up for a face off - Ember versus the House of Cross.
I loved the twists on the fairy tale. How the other characters show up is absolutely genius. The ball? The glass slipper? This is a masterful retelling with genius crafting, fantastic prose, and amazing spice that made me blush.
This absolutely cemented Simone as an "if she writes it, I'll read it" author.
