I really enjoyed Colette and Garrett's insta-love ski resort romance.
Colette is an easy character to root for. Her Olympic ski dreams were crushed by an injury several years prior, but she doesn't dwell on what could have been. Instead, she is focused on enjoying life as a ski instructor in her small hometown of Butterfly Ridge. She is friends with most of her fellow employees (Patrick can F ALL THE WAY OFF) and gets to spend time on the mountain with her BFF, Jayden. I love that her best friend is a man and they have a 100% platonic relationship—more of this, please!! She is exactly what I would want in a bestie: a quick sense of humor, an adventure-seeking personality, and the ability to be both feminine and a total badass on the mountain. I get why Garrett is instantly drawn to her.
If there was ever a man whose photo belongs in the dictionary next to love at first sight, it is Garrett. This man is down hard for Colette from the moment she helps him into his skis. I love that he's appropriately flirty, never pushing into creep territory. And he is such a great uncle to his nieces that Colette mistakes him for their (very married) father. He constantly impressed me with what an overall good guy he is—to his family, to his friends, and especially to Colette.
Having come from E.L. Koslo's Masked Men of Sage Springs series, I was surprised by how slow of a burn the spice was. Not a criticism, as the spice was spicing when it hit, just something I noted while reading.
I appreciate that the developers-coming-to-town side plot subverted expectations. It was a refreshing change and a genuine surprise.
This was a great first entry in the new Match Made in Butterfly Ridge series, and I'm excited to see where the rest of the series will take us.
