Book: Storm by R.A. Raine

Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me.
The premise initially intrigued me, and I pushed through the early chapters hoping things would click after the major time jump. Instead, I found myself struggling to connect with both the story and the characters.
My biggest issue was the balance between plot and romance/spice. By the 28% mark, I felt like I was getting a lot of sexual tension, captivity dynamics, and breeding themes, but not enough plot progression to keep me invested. The relationship also leaned heavily into a dark captor/captive dynamic, which can be very hit-or-miss for me. In books where I've enjoyed similar themes, there was usually another character or emotional counterbalance that helped offset the darker elements. I didn't find that here.
I also had a hard time fully buying into the romantic development. Rather than being eager to pick the book back up, I found myself checking my reading progress and wondering when I'd start caring about what happened next.
That said, I can absolutely see this working for readers who enjoy darker romantasy, possessive MMCs, captivity romance, and high-spice stories with angst-heavy relationship dynamics. It simply wasn't the right fit for my personal tastes or current reading mood.
No rating for the writing itself, just a respectful DNF.
