Book: Tallow and Bone by Rhiannon Hargadon

After reading and being obsessed with Bloody Black, this was, ultimately... a catastrophe. I'm going to try to speak on this completely unbiased, but as I'm sure you're aware that's going to be quite hard.
Overall the story felt very slapped together and forced. There were so many plot holes, character flaws, and lore that was mentioned... then just dropped like it didn't mean anything. As you start the book you think you know the FMC's motivations, only for her to forget her own motivations for now reason at all? Not only that she completely abandons what is supposed to be her "core values" which is mentioned sooooo many times even as she is ACTIVELY GOING AGAINST THEM?? while trying to say shes doing it because or them? The whole of the book doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The interactions and motivations of characters are not only not flushed out but also just rewritten multiple times throughout the story?
Also, if you're reading this as a romance read... Just don't. There is no HEA. There really isn't any romance just some spicy scenes, a completely overlooked love-interest, and an abusive, controlling, psycho second love-interest.
I tried really hard to get the overall view of the book, to understand the plot and character developments but honestly it all just fell short. I've read 300pg books and felt more attached and connected to the characters, felt like I knew them on a soul deep level, like they were a part of me. I read these characters for 800pgs and still have absolutely no idea who they were and why they did what they did.
I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this unbiased and honest review voluntarily. <3
