Queen of the Night Sky is a perfect conclusion to the Starlight Duology.
Queen of the Night Sky picks up immediately after the events of the Starlight Heir. Everything is well and good in the world, and our couple is happy. But things slowly become muddled, and from there it is almost non-stop.
Our dear Sura now faces new challenges, new realms, and truths about the things she has come to know and love. Its a tale of strength, of finding herself once again. Her whole world is flipped upside down.
And Roshan, well, he's having a rough go as well. Things escalate to the point of the reader not knowing where to put their hopes. Because The Night King is also far more prevalent in this story, and I am so glad for that
I loved having small glimpses of him in The Starlight Heir, but in QotNS it's so much better. He quickly becomes my favorite of the two MMCs. But I'm a sucker for a good shadow daddy.
The twist did actually take me by surprise. I was fully convinced in my own head that I knew who and what was going on. Turns out, I was completely wrong. And while the end may feel rushed, for me, it feels more real. Not everything needs to be dragged out, and it left me feeling like I could empathize more withe the characters. Its not a complete HEA, but its a step towards that.
Howard does a very good job of insinuating that while the bad guys lost, that not all the things have been resolved. There's no huge time skip, things just kinda, fade out. All in all, I ATE this up.
