“Strong men do not abuse their wives, they don’t abuse their children, they don’t abuse anyone. True strength comes with a nobility of character that would make such actions impossible for a truly strong person.”
I am so honored to have ARC read the next Merry Gentry book, (10 if you can believe that). I want to extend my heartfelt thank you to @official_lkhamilton , @berkleypub and @netgalley for this opportunity.
This means so much to me since Laurell K Hamilton will forever be my favorite author. Both of her Urban Fantasy series’ brought me to the connection between Spicy Romance and Fantasy, my first experiences with Unhinged level Spicy Romantasy.
What to Expect:
Urban Fantasy / Romantasy
Magical Murder Mystery
Polyamorous Romance
Fae Politics
Court Intrigue
Epic World Building
Tension
Unhinged Spice
My Thoughts:
It has been 12 years and I was beyond ready to see what Merry was going to get herself into now. Once I began reading, it felt as though no time had passed. I was immediately thrown back into the beautiful world of faerie (although technically the Western Lands).
Each character has such a special part in Merry’s life, good or bad. Somehow you are able to connect to every single one of them. I absolutely loved how this was a bit of a murder mystery plot rather than “just” focused on Merry’s path.
“There are women who would have felt left out, or even a little jealous maybe, but I loved that the two men were just as much a couple with each other as they were with me and as the three of us were with each other.”
In true Laurell fashion, the romance is written absolutely beautifully, with the spice level off the chains. I love how she describes the Unseelie connection and reverence for lust. Make sure you read the trigger warnings, this one isn’t for beginners (or vanilla only readers I suppose).
As with every single one of these novels, I am left wanting more. God tier, 6⭐.
