This book was an interesting take on Dark Gothic Fantasy with a splash of Romance and lots of intrigue. The story follows Tam, an Ass@ssin, who is given her next target, A Prince who is known for his kindness and love for his people. You follow Tam as she struggles to find out why The Prince is the target. There are many twists and turns throughout this story and it's interesting to watch Tam struggle with her feelings during her mission. Someone who usually has stayed detached, now is finding herself forming attachments to a few of the people in her life currently, but at what cost?
Along the way several important characters enter Tam's life, including a Broody Guard to the Prince, and a kindhearted Lady who is betrothed to the Prince. This book has some good world building and has a unique plot. There were some places I felt a little lost on the transition from past to present. One other area I struggled was pacing. I felt some parts it was slower and others it zipped by more quickly, and I wasn't sure what has taken place. The ending was a surprise and I'm curious to see what happens next.
However, overall this is a lovely book with a unique storyline, good world building, and characters you love. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to my reader friends who enjoy Dark Gothic Romantasy books.
Thank you to the Author and City Owl Press for this e-ARC copy. This is my honest review.
