Carrion of Ashes opens with Signy leaving a psychiatric hospital after a year in which she hasn’t spoken a single word. That heartbreaking introduction immediately sets the tone for a very dark story.
The disturbing family dynamics, manipulation, and trauma give Signy’s struggle to trust and feel safe so much weight. Her complicated history with Geir adds another layer to an already intense romance. What stood out most was the fire still inside her despite everything she’s endured.
Five stars from me for this first book in the Rings of Death series. Please check the author’s content warnings before reading—these themes are heavy.
