Satirical horror is one of my absolute favorite subgenres. While blending dark humor and horror might seem jarring to some, the comedy in this story brilliantly balances the heavier themes.
We follow a battered woman who is given the chance to exact revenge on her abuser by choosing a demon to carry out the deed with each demon’s backstory revealed along the way. Despite the heavy subject matter, the narrative keeps things delightfully absurd through elements like a full-fledged corporation that treats offering demon services as business as usual.
The story weaves several threads together that partially resolve by the end while leaving you eager to see what happens in the next book. The theme of feminine rage is palpable throughout, making the journey that much more satisfying.
I highly recommend this if you're looking for a quick, fun, and darkly witty read for spooky season!
