Troublemaking jock & stoic bratva bodyguard? Yes, please!
Tate Landrey is football royalty. So when he gets caught in a media scandal that gets him kicked off his college football team, his family sends him upstate to Crimson College. For Roman Petrov, college is a way to keep some distance from his family, but when his cousin, Yegor, asks him to work as Tate’s bodyguard, the Bratva heir can’t refuse.
As the danger escalates, so does the attraction between Roman and Tate. With help from his Onyx Society brothers and the one cousin he does like, can Roman protect the man he’s vowed to keep safe?
Twisted Little Game was a fun read. I know that seems silly to say about a dark college romance with both the mafia and a secret society, but the sweet connection between Roman and Tate kept the darkness of their worlds at bay.
While Tate initially has no interest in having a bodyguard, I loved how he enjoyed teasing Roman and was content to let a super hot guy follow him around. It was great to see early on that Tate was actually pretty low-key and got caught up in the “I have a bad reputation, my life’s already been ruined, I might as well just be who people think I am” thing, not a spoiled rich kid.
I also loved that when the hot bodyguard is like, “yo, you’re in a fuck ton of danger and you need to let me help,” Tate was like, cool. We get that first scene where Tate challenges Roman’s boundaries and, well, whew! But then he accepts that he really does need Roman’s help (and hopefully a repeat of that first encounter), and works with him as the threats escalate. Even as Tate learns more about Roman’s background, he chooses to trust him and works to stay out of danger.
Finally, I am so looking forward to Maks’s book, which is up next!
