A Field Beyond Notions was an entertaining and addictive read that kept me turning pages from beginning to end.
The gothic atmosphere was one of my favorite aspects of the book. The descriptions helped create a dark and immersive setting that perfectly matched the tone of the story. Combined with the chemistry between the main characters and the constant tension, it was very easy to stay invested in what would happen next.
Enver's obsession was probably the strongest element of the novel. I completely believed his obsession with Rosario, and his determination never felt inconsistent with his character. Rosario also felt believable, especially in the way she initially resisted her desires and struggled with her fears before gradually accepting her feelings.
The dual POV added value to the story by allowing readers to understand both characters' perspectives. However, as the story progressed, I found it increasingly difficult to distinguish between their narrative voices. By the final portion of the book, I often relied on the chapter headings to remember who was narrating.
While I enjoyed both protagonists, I wanted more depth from Enver's character. We are given glimpses of important aspects of his life—his parents' deaths, his relationship with his sister, and his found family—but these elements are only briefly mentioned. I would have loved to explore these parts of his backstory further, as they felt important to understanding him beyond his obsession.
I also felt that the obsession was more convincing than the love story itself. While I fully understood Enver's fixation on Rosario, the emotional transition from obsession to love felt less developed. I found myself wanting more moments that showed how those deeper feelings grew over time.
The spice is definitely a major component of the book. Readers should pay close attention to the trigger warnings, as the story contains explicit content and darker relationship dynamics. For those who enjoy dark romance with obsessive characters, gothic vibes, and plenty of spice, this will likely be a great fit.
Overall, this was a compelling read with a strong atmosphere, engaging tension, and characters that kept me invested. Despite some areas where I wanted more development, I finished the book curious to see where the series goes next, which is always a good sign.
