Got the chance to be an ARC reader for @rowanmackay_ 's City of Crooked Vows (Faerie Bound, Book One) and wanted to share my thoughts: 5 Stars
Aly, the MFC, has been living a life of crime as the enforcer for the most ruthless crime lord in town. Still, as victims of her similar circumstance start to go missing. The police refuse to see the pattern, she's forced to team up with a police officer who arrested her to not only solve the disappearances, but to save herself from sure death.
I loved the writing style and the pacing. Lots of story details, but every scene was impactful and didn't feel drawn out. Both Aly and Calum had tremendous character development, pushing through trauma and fears to do what's right. The way the author showed trauma and abuse in such a realistic way, from dealing with mental and physical abuse in the moment to the physical reactions of the characters, and how it all affects their thought processes and the decisions they make.
Loved the setting, the story details, and the general plot. I'm always a huge fan of enemies-to-lovers, especially when the FMC is strong-willed and the MMC YEARNS!
I highly recommend it if you love those things, as well as high-stakes, dangerous & intense situations, and fairies.
