Penny arrives in the small town of Maplewood looking to start fresh, convinced that everything that has ever happened to her was her fault. As she spends more time getting on her feet she starts to get to know the people in town too. When she comes across the Maplewood fire department she doesn’t expect to become a nanny for firefighter Evan Prince. Evan is a single-dad to the adorable and penguin loving Elle. Everyone pitches in to help take care of Elle but Evan insists he has it. When he meets newcomer Penny, he’s intrigued but careful. Still, it isn’t long before he hires Penny.
When two people with a past meet, it turns out their story smolders and ignites in unexpected ways. I fell in love with the slowburn with a pacing to match but once the story picked up, things really ignited and with an intensity I didn't know I needed. I also wasn't expecting to tear up and cry but there were moments that just felt so overwhelming and right for those emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed Cinder and am already looking forward to Hotshot.
Thank you so much to Hailey Rodger and Luna Literary Management for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.
