I fell hard for Billie and Ryder’s friends-to-lovers romance. There’s something about a man realizing the woman meant for him has been right in front of him all along that just gets me every time.
I absolutely adored Billie. As the only girl in a family of boys, she gives as good as she gets. She wears her heart on her sleeve, says exactly what she’s thinking, and brings a fearless, determined energy that makes her so fun to read. She fits seamlessly alongside the other FMCs in the series, and it was such a treat getting to know her family better (because who doesn’t love a group of sexy brothers?).
Who knew that buried beneath Ryder’s emotional walls was a man who cared so deeply? Each of the Rivers men was shaped by the loss of their parents, but Ryder — the baby of the family and self-proclaimed mama’s boy — seemed to carry it the heaviest. Watching him slowly open himself back up to love was both touching and, at times, heartbreaking. His journey isn’t easy, but the payoff feels completely earned.
Together, Billie and Ryder bring out the best in each other. I swooned as their casual flirtation deepened into something more meaningful. They’re honest, comfortable, and completely themselves together, which makes their HEA feel especially believable.
I’m so sad to be leaving Lucky River Ranch, but I can’t think of a better way to close out the series. I’m going to miss this tight-knit family who found great love after profound loss. I’m hopeful we’ll see them again in the upcoming Double U Ranch series centered on Billie’s brothers. And that tiny sneak peek of first MMC Colt? Let’s just say I’m already thirsting for more.
