Character development (or lack thereof) missed the mark

I enjoy both cowboy romances and romantic suspense stories, so I was excited to receive an ALC of this one. Unfortunately, it was a miss for me. I LOVE a man that's down bad for his woman, but it seemed like that was really Christian's entire personality. I was hoping for a bit more character development, but it was just his obsession that pushed the story forward and I feel like there was so much more untapped potential.
Sage, on the other hand, had a lot of depth as a character with her past. It made me connect more to her, but I felt like there wasn't a great deal of character or relationship development on her end. It was disappointing. She went from being annoyed by the fact that Christian existed to falling in love with him in the span of what felt like minutes.
This was my first into to the author and I fear this may be a one and done for me, at least on this series. If you're looking for a quick audiobook, this hits that mark, I just didn't mesh all that well with the story.
