Book: Carrion of Ashes by Carliann Jean

Carrion of Ashes sucked me in from the very beginning! It was very easy to lose myself in this world. Signy absolutely has to be one of my favorite characters ever!
When we open, Signy is already suffering the penalty of past actions. She's about to be dumped into an arranged marriage, can barely tell reality from "hallucinations", and doesn't speak. As the book progresses, we begin to see that she's just selective about WHEN to use her voice, those hallucinations seem remarkably able to warn her of things, and that arranged marriage may not be as bad as everyone thinks.
Enter Geir: full of remorse for abandoning Signy years prior, he's the one she's set to marry. His family adores her, he's as awkward as a school boy, and - oh yes - he's trying to take her family down.
There's political posturing, an almost-but-not-quite-mafia-esque feel to the families, supernatural goings-on, and a romance they keep talking themselves out of.
I thoroughly enjoyed Carrion of Ashes and can't wait to revisit the world! This author is is definitely on my "watch list".
