💕 ARC Review 🩸
"Maybe that was the whole purpose of life. Trying to leave the place a little better than you found it, one body and one good deed at a time."
I am really enjoying this interconnected standalone series, The Zodiac Killers! This book was such a good fit with the rest of the books, but at the same time had its own story and own spin on things.
For a while, I wasn't sure what in the world was going to happen. I was recording theories in my reading trackers and oh I both hated and loved when I was wrong! 😂
Lucie has this incredibly sensitive backstory. She's had a really, really harsh start to life. One I couldn't even imagine dealing with. The way she's found her place in life is something to admire....even if she is a star assassin, maybe because she is a star assassin - she's taken the power back, or she's trying to.
The crew vibe vs. the police and how the stories intertwined were so well done - and this book isn't even 250 pages, so the way it was developed so well in such a short story was incredibly enjoyable to read.
I really did enjoy the depth of Lucie's character. I generally have a hard time believing in the love when a story is so short, but the backgrounds and the vulnerability opened the door for love to come in and heal things.
On the other hand, Lucie would take control in a completely unexpected way, but in a really empowering way. Just loved her as a character, Really, so much depth in so brief of a story. I'd love to read more about her. She may be my favorite Zodiac Killer so far. Ahh! It's so hard to pick a favorite.
As with the other books in this series, this book is quite spicy! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
If I'd have changed anything, it would've been to have a longer book because I really wanted to believe in the love story, but the suddenness felt a little unbelievable to me, which is why the ratings where it is.
