Book: Broken Dove by Dani Francis

This is hard to review because I definitely enjoyed it at the time, but a few months later I can barely remember the major plot points. I originally gave this 4.5 stars rounded up to 5, but am thinking it's closer to 4 stars after some time away.
Silver Elite was a fun beach read that didn't take itself too seriously, whereas this book felt like it was trying to do a lot more with the rebellion and the larger political plot, and I don't think it quite stuck the landing. Characters made some choices that didn't really make sense, and it sometimes felt like the author was creating reasons for things to happen because the plot needed it. Even the big reveal at the end left me like "okay?". I also really didn't love that Cross and Wren were apart for a lot of the book (I generally don't like separation in most books). If there's a really good reason for main characters to be separated I can get past it, but this definitely felt manufactured for the drama and angst.
That being said though, the pacing kept me interested and there was at least one twist I did like, even if my brain can't remember anything else now. I liked it, but I don't think the plot was executed as well as the fun chaos of Silver Elite.
