I enjoyed this book. She really brings to life the feelings of the characters. It was a rollercoaster to read at times and I teared up a few times as well. There are some things in this book that sit with me and make me think, "why can't someone say/do that for me."

We start with Bruin standing in The Black Lodge surrounded by dead bodies, then he turns and walks off to the Mountain. We skip to five years later, and Devon, the wife of the richest man in town's son, is sitting at home mending some clothes and blankets for the neighbors when she hears someone outside. She opens the door to find the Priest and some guards out there, they grab her and take her away. They call her a witch because she is barren and she recently visited a friend whose child was sickly and died not long after the visit.

They hold her till first snow then sew her lips shut and take her up the mountain to be judged by The Father of The Mountain, the same mountain Bruin went to those many years ago. He saves her, cuts the bindings on her mouth and wrists free. He takes her towards a village on the other side of the mountain, she is afraid. So he offers his place as a refuge till she heals. They get snowed in and figure out each other, then spring and danger come to them......

There is hope and love even in the darkest moments and I think this book shows you that through their story. I'll leave you with this:
“You don’t need to claim me, Bruin,” she said. “Because I choose you.”
