Big Bad Wolf is the first book in a new paranormal romance series called Maple Hollow by Laurie Gilmore. As the first novel, there’s a bit of mystery and worldbuilding to set up readers in this small town. The story is fun, cozy and perfect as autumn kicks in, and it has its cheeky and spicy moments.

Ruby Bellerose lives with her twin sister, Lena, at the edge of the woods in a small cottage near the town. For as long as she’s lived there, she’s tried to avoid the gossip that tends to run rampant especially when it involves her sister. As outsiders start catching wind of the gossip the world around Ruby starts to unfold, including a chance encounter with the mysterious Rafe.

There are some moments in the plot that feel very slow and I felt frustrated by it because while I could see what was happening, the characters hadn’t figured it out yet. At the same time, there are some moments that are intensely paced and I wanted to know more/what would happen next only for it to not be addressed (hopefully in upcoming novels in the series!). Overall, I had a really good time and I can’t wait to return to Maple Hollow!

Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins, Harper360, and Laurie Gilmore for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own
