Anyone that knows me, knows I love a good Romantasy, so it was really nice to take a break from reading romance and read a Hugh fantasy instead.

I’m someone who often struggles with world building, but that’s not to the fault of the author and more to the fault of myself. That being said, I found it incredibly easily to keep up with the world building within this story and loved how beautifully written the entire story was. At times I found myself being able to imagine life within the story, the days spent with Leon and The Band; and the vicious battle that occurred from the Sister.

In addition to the excellent world building, I was revelling in the found family trope, especially with Leon’s and Jackie’s relationship. Leon is a grump, he likes a good drink and he likes to go about his day while trying to avoid his past and the death that looms over his head; but this man was such an incredible “father” to Jackie that I couldn’t help but love him. I only wished there were more scenes between them.

Finally, the way the story ended had my heart a little broken. I don’t know why I didn’t expect it, I just know I was so upset over it. But once again, it was written in a beautiful way that I can’t be mad at Ceril.

This book is perfect for those who enjoy something a little darker, and a fight that you wish you could be a part of!
