The very first aspect I need to bring attention to, is Rozina Hyland's writing, which in itself holds it's own magic. It is beautiful and grabs you. It immerses you so deeply that you find yourself feeling as though you are part of the story.
The FMC, Tilda, demonstrates such bravery in the aftermath of her mother's death, who, years prior, was declared a witch and hanged. Tilda was then thrown into a world filled with judgement, cruelty, mistrust, and servitude, where she faces everything with a depth of determination that can only be admired.
This book read like a combination of a Jane Austen romance and a modern day retelling. And you know what? It worked.
