Beneath the Ice picks up where Shift Change left off. It describes the events following Luke's accident, Wes's emotional journey, and the sorrow he experiences after Kai's death, his first love. Following the accident, Wes focused on personal growth and processing his grief to support Luke. Similar to the first book, this one was incredible. Reading this book made me feel just as emotional as the first one did. It was painful to witness Wes's difficult struggle with his upbringing, his anger, and his grief, but the transformations he underwent were beautiful. What happened to Kai and how his family and Wes found out was devastating. Luke's whole journey with his accident and learning to forgive was written so well.
Raya is great at making characters feel real. She poured a lot of emotion into these books. Wes's story will forever remain with me. I hope it's as well-loved by others as it was by me. This is particularly recommended for fans of emotional love stories.
