Kai is such a relatable character. Who hasn't, at least once, thought of what it would be like to start fresh; someplace where no one knew you or your past, and to make a home for yourself without the extra baggage? I know I have 🙋♀️.
This isn't just another romantasy. This is a story about loss at it's core; loss of family, loss of opportunity, loss of identity. Kai struggles through the whole book, right up until the last page. If you've ever experienced that, you will understand.
Ashes of Nightshade had me in it's clutches. I thought I had things all figured out, and then things would flip and I would be left wondering where I missed the clues. It is a slow, SLOW burn too. Xander has some secrets, and I cannot WAIT to learn them. Clearly he is hiding more than meets the eye.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Jodi Cox for the opportunity to read and review this book. I truly cannot wait to see where this story goes from here.
If you want a story that's a journey, this is the book for you. I'm not going to tell you to pick it up for the romance, or the fantasy elements. (But those are great too.) If you want to cry, to break, to heal, to feel like someone else is going through things with you, read this book. I promise it's worth the read.
