Finished this right on time for the second one to be available! Which is perfect, because I'm desperate to be saved (or to fall) from this cliffhanger. Unfortunately for me that will definitely not be this month, as my ARC TBR has filled it.
This brand-new world, with gargoyles with tragic backstories, unique (and honestly terrifying) divination, and backstabbing [spoiler] was a great read! Just enough world building without it taking over the whole first book (not a bad thing for those books that need it) and lots of unanticipated plot twists, though I just knew they were Bartholomew! The world building here was perfect, if we'd had a deep dive into it early on in the book it would've ruined so much.
The character growth from beginning to end was great. It never stalled anywhere. Each section contributed to changing beliefs, character, and self-confidence.
Love the underlying religious themes - not every belief was created with overall human wellbeing in mind.
Overall, definitely happy I found the time to read this! 100% would recommend.
