I had read this previously and definitely connected more to the audio performances as the narration was superb; Angelina Rocca and Teddy Hamilton work brilliantly together in this duet recording. Cain is as unhinged as the title suggests and there are a couple of really brutal scenes to content with. The pacing threw me a little as although this is not insta-love, we get there very quickly and I wasn't quite sure how much time had actually passed. I did genuinely enjoy Cain's bemusement at how Kirby was changing him which was an interesting spin and they somehow met in the middle rather than Kirby going over to the dark side or Cain coming over to the light. Abel though is a different story; he made my skin creep and I felt uncomfortable ever time he popped up. The additional POV of Kirby's mum was a bonus too; her plotline was probably my favourite and the twists were brilliant.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
