Book: Keep Me Safe by Nikki Sloane

I loved Shawn from the moment he breezed back into his own house in Laurel and Jason's book and couldn't wait to hear his story. There are some similar themes to book one with forced proximity being the main one and the reappearance of Frey after the events of book one but you could read it as a standalone.
There is a good blend of romance and suspense but I'd have loved to have seen more of Kara and Shawn's interactions via text rather than starting with a time jump as that would have fleshed their relationship out a little more for me and added a bit more to the will they/wont they tension. Similarly with Kara and Laurel; they have been estranged for years and I'd loved to have seen more of them reconnecting. Given Shawn's romantic history this was pleasantly OW drama free and instead the conflict comes from Kara being reluctant to give into the sparks between them.
Lidia Dornet is a new to me narrator and was great as Kara; the scenes with Frey in particular had me on the edge of my seat. Chris Merlin had me falling for Shawn all over again; I am now with Kara on the german language after listening to the dialogue! The big surprise for me though was Frey; he was awful but there was something about that performance that had me charmed more than once. I needed to have a word with myself a couple of times!
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
