Dark academia, magic, secret societies, and a denouement that had me LITERALLY SOBBING because WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S OVER?!?!
The push and pull between Ellory and Hudson, their academic banter that hinted at something deeper that COULD be if they just let their brains get out of the way. The mysterious goings on at Warren University that, let's be honest, would have ANY fan of a horror/thriller movies going "Umm.. girl, RUN!" And a cast of characters that I wanted to hang out with from the moment each of them walked on to the page... except for a few notable exceptions who deserved to be punched in their faces from the word go.
And that ending? Everything about the last third of this book made me just ... really? HOW DARE YOU KAMILAH COLE. YOU MADE ME FEEL THOSE FEELINGS! And the things he said? HOW CAN ANYONE EVER LIVE UP TO THAT. Formal complaint registered that I don't know how any book character can ever live up to that standard.
