I really enjoyed jumping straight back into this world after Because the Beast Came! This book brings plenty of action, more beasts, new creatures and even more of the gods, which I loved. The armoured bears were definitely a favourite of mine! 🐻
I also loved seeing Pyetar continue to be such a constant support for Iryana. He was always there for her, and I really enjoyed their dynamic.
One thing I found frustrating was Iryana's constant self-doubt and the pressure she puts on herself to make everyone happy. I understand that healing is a journey, especially when it comes to family trauma, but I felt like there wasn't much change in the wider family dynamics. After seeing Iryana begin to open up in the first book, I would have loved to see more progress with the family, beyond her sisters.
I loved the build-up involving the gods, but I wish we had seen more of them and the actual battles. The ending felt a little rushed, especially considering how much anticipation had been built up.
Overall, an enjoyable continuation with plenty of action, fantastic creatures and more of a world I love. I just wish some of the bigger moments had been given a little more room to unfold!
