This book gave me K-drama and Filipino drama vibes, and I absolutely loved it! 🥹❤️
I found this story so relatable, especially as someone who is half Filipino. I'm also a nurse, and thankfully I don't carry the same responsibilities as Julia, but growing up, I saw my mum and her siblings work so hard to support not only their immediate families but also their family back home. It made the story feel so real to me, and I could recognise so much of that family dynamic.
Julia is an absolute sweetheart who loves and cares for everyone, often putting others before herself. Honestly, Surface Pressure from Encanto is her song! 😂 You just want her to catch a break and have someone look after her for once.
And don't even get me started on her brother! 😡 His actions made me SO frustrated, especially because that kind of family dynamic can feel all too familiar. I really hope he learns from it.
I'm so glad Julia found someone like Leith. The romance between them was so cute, and I loved seeing him take some of that pressure off her shoulders and love her in the way she so freely loves everyone else. I was rooting for these two! ❤️ Plus, we love a story with foodies! 😂 The side characters were also such a lovely addition.
Overall, this was such a heartfelt and relatable read. I loved the family dynamics, the romance, and the way the story explores the weight of family responsibilities and the importance of being cared for, too.
Definitely recommend this one! 🥹❤️
